CHRIST IN WINTER:
Reflections on Faith for the Winter Years.
Continuing to reflect on
the story of “the rich young ruler” in Mark 10:17-31, and Jesus’s statement
that it is easier for a camel go through the eye of a needle than for a rich
person to get into heaven, I am reminded of the rich man who arranged for his funeral
in his will.
His body was dressed in
his best suit and Stetson hat. He was seated in a new Cadillac. The stereo
blasted “Money, Money, Money” from the speakers in the car. A big lighted cigar
was stuck in his mouth. Hundred dollar bills floated around him.
As a crane lowered him
into the grave, Cadillac and all, an onlooker said, “Man, that’s living!”
