Bathrooms have often been
the site of insight.
Martin Luther learned
there, famously,
about letting go
to accept God’s grace,
a movement that begat
a movement
that changed the world.
I suspect that room is the
setting,
or perhaps sitting,
of more insights than we
hear about,
for it is surely unseemly
to mention that source,
even in an end note,
when celebrating some new
thought
in story or song,
unless you are trying
to reform a religion.
But consider the pose
of Rodin’s famous statue
of “The Thinker,”
and ask yourself,
“Where did the sculptor
flush out that idea?”
