I learned from my mother
And then from my wife
To let the bed air out a bit
Before covering it up again
And not to sit on the edge of
the bed
To lace up my shoes
So the edges would stay firm
And most of all
To draw the drapes against
The slanted sun
So the colors of the couch
Would never fade
But now that I am old
I never pull the drapes
Against the sun
That couch will outlast me
And if it does not
I shall sit on it in the
sunlight
